Yes, that's right, this is part 3 of Free Things To Do At The Walt Disney World Resort. A lot of people don't realize how many free activities there are throughout the resort, and this three-part series certainly doesn't cover everything, but it will give you a good start on where to find the free activities.
Parts 1 and 2 of the series focused mainly on free things offered outside of the theme parks while part 3 will focus on free activities within the theme parks...with a few other locations sprinkled in for fun. Keep in mind that although the activities mentioned are free while you are in the theme parks, they do require valid admission.
Pixie Dust at Harmony Barber Shop
Harmony Barber Shop is a little shop tucked next to the Emporium on Main St U.S.A just after you enter the theme park. It is a working barber shop and if you can get a reservation, you can actually get a haircut while visiting Magic Kingdom. This is where my oldest daughter had her first haircut, and it was such an amazing experience; your child not only gets their hair cut, they also get a pair of Mickey ears with "My First Haircut" embroidered on them, a keepsake certificate and of course a lock of their hair with some special pixie dust. If you dont' have a reservation, you can still go into the shop and ask for a sprinkle of pixie dust. What a great way to add some sparkle to your day!
Kidcot Stations at Epcot
The Kidcot stations are a huge hit with my kids. The Kidcot stations are located at each of the 11 World Showcase pavilions and were created specifically for children. Here they can personalize their own souvenir from each of the represented countries and have the opportunity to learn a little something about each country from the cast member at the station.
Club Cool at Epcot
Club Cool is a fun must-do during every Epcot visit for my family. This is where you can sample free Coca Cola drinks from all over the world and experience what products are popular in other countries. Are you brave enough to try Beverly?
Free Concerts
EPCOT is known as the festival location and throughout the year you will find many free concerts as part of the festival events. The concerts usually feature popular musical artists from the 80's, 90's, and 2000's and take place at the American Gardens Theatre in the American Pavilion. I recently had the pleasure of being in the park for Boyz II Men and Kenny G's concerts and they were both fantastic, even my young children enjoyed them!
If you happen to be at EPCOT during Festival of the Holidays you won't want to miss the Candlelight Processional. This is a beautiful re-telling of the Christmas story with a celebrity narrator, and an unbelievable orchestra and choral group. The Candlelight Processional is my absolute favorite part of Walt Disney World's Christmas celebrations and will bring out the Christmas spirit in anyone who gets a chance to watch.
Stickers and Celebration Buttons
You can find these throughout the Disney property. My kids love collecting the stickers and cast members love giving them to kids.
If you are celebrating anything at all during your Disney World trip be sure to stop and ask for your celebration button. You can find these at all Guest Services locations, your hotel lobby, and the checkout counter at most stores throughout the resort. My kids also love collecting their buttons and can come up with some pretty creative things they choose to celebrate.
Wilderness Explorer's Badge
You can collect Wilderness Explorer Badges at Animal Kingdom, just like Russell in Up. In addition, you can join a scavenger hunt all around Disney's Animal Kingdom using your Wilderness Explorer booklet.
Disney Springs
Aside from shopping and dining options, there are some free things you can do while visiting Disney Springs. You can visit the Lego Imagination Center and play in the huge bins of loose Lego, or get some great photos with the life-sized Lego sculptures.
Don't forget to stop by the entrance to World of Disney for a photo with some princesses and watch out for Stitch as he loves to spit water on unsuspecting passerby.
While at Disney Springs you can also visit Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop for a free sample of chocolate from the cast member at the entrance. Bonus points if you have the willpower to get a sample and avoid indulging in the delicious ice cream.
